Immediate plans of MMORPG Throne and Liberty from NCSOFT

The producer of the anticipated MMORPG Throne and Liberty Jongok Ahn (안종옥, Jongok Ahn) has published the third letter in which he spoke about the upcoming events the developers are preparing for. We have prepared a translation of this letter.

Today I would like to share some interesting news with you. At 11:00 (05:00 Moscow time) on November 2nd we will finally show you a showcase dedicated to Throne and Liberty. We finished filming last week, and after a good editing we will premiere it on the official YouTube channel of Throne and Liberty.

You’ll see the results of the improvements we talked about in our last newsletter, and we’ll also answer some of the questions you’ve been asking on the forum and in the official communities.

In fact, we are sorry and frustrated that we had to keep silent about the questions that arose after the previous letters, especially about the questions related to the game’s business model. I really wanted to get straight to the point, but I realized that answering them in the form of a showcase where I could elaborate on them would reduce misunderstandings.

I check your comments every morning and promise I won’t pretend I didn’t notice them. Again, I apologize for keeping you waiting for a response.

After the showcase, we will be getting ready to get serious with you. We will have a stage at G-Star 2023. We will show content that hasn’t been revealed yet. Since the release is scheduled for December, it will be a very busy time. We’ve been working towards this for a long time and we’re happy to be launching the game after so much hard work. We thank you for your expectations.

As I write this letter, I am turning the page of one of the chapters related to the launch of the game. There is still a lot of testing, tweaking, and bug-fighting to be done, but I think it’s safe to say this is the end of the road (although we’ll still be working on future updates).

Since the beta release, everyone on the team has been working on a very tight schedule. I knew from the beginning how challenging it would be, but wanted to make sure we got the unique appeal of Throne and Liberty right. Two locations, two large raids with completely different mechanics, 19 localized events, 18 bosses, and six dungeons – TL is going to be very large from launch, and every day the game’s magic increases like dominoes. However, we didn’t want to shrink the scope – completeness and scope is something we wanted to maintain as a team that loves this game. The reason we pushed each other so hard is because of you, the people who have waited so long for this game.

We are lucky enough to be able to bring you Throne and Liberty this year. We’re going to make it up to you for not doing it sooner by supporting our game for a very long, very long time.

The feeling of finishing launch development is one of relief that we made it to the end and stayed on schedule, and regret that we could have done better. We will use the parts of the project that frustrate us as a basis for further development of Throne and Liberty, and we hope you will continue to leave us your feedback. It really does help us a lot.

I was originally only going to tell you about the showcase, but I ended up telling you a bit more. I think I’m getting a bit used to writing, so I’ll tell you a little personal story. Since publishing my first letter, I’ve received messages of support from players and colleagues, some I didn’t even know. They praised me for my endeavors, others offered thoughtful comments on my wording, but they all had one piece of advice in common: “Keep going.” It was the most impactful and motivating advice I received.

Of course, I don’t expect to make huge strides with three letters. And I’m not doing this to avoid criticism. In fact, I’m doing it because I want to hear criticism. I’ve been making games all my life, so my methods of communicating with my audience may be clumsy, but I’m going to stick to them, and I hope you’ll keep an eye out for future letters. If I have the courage, I’ll make a video, and after a while I’ll even go live. I’ll show you how I’m evolving.

I hope that the letter I wrote will change your opinion about the game. I will try to keep my word and I want to thank you for being so patient with me. In the next letter I will tell you about more concrete plans for the launch of the project.
